Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to own my photo to submit it?

Yes, you must own your photo. Copyright law states, “Only the owner of copyright in a work has the right to prepare, or to authorize someone else to create, a new version of that work.”

How do I surprise someone with a pet pic, if I don’t own the photo that I want painted?

Either take your own photo of the pet and submit that photo, or you’ll have to ask the person for their permission to submit the photo. If they have a spouse, you could ask the spouse for permission to use the photo. It’s actually nearly impossible for me to confirm if you really own a photo, so I have to trust that you are being honest about your submission. We keep records of all transactions, so that if at any time someone claims copyright infringement, we will defer responsibility to you.

Do you paint anything other than pets, like kids?

At this time I’m not painting anything other than pets. I am planning series of pets beyond cats and dogs, including exotics (birds, lizards, etc.) and farm animals (chickens, pigs, etc.). If you feel strongly that you must have a kid painting, or other subject, please reach out. I’m certainly interested in learning about new markets.

Can I use my pet’s painting for fundraising?

With Shaley DeGiorgio’s approval, you can use the pet art on products to fundraise for an official non-profit cause. See Terms of Use.
